Beginning with the sale of his motorcycle, Tony Lahman of Impact Construction LLC built his company from the ground up nearly 20 years ago. Tony was born and raised in the Sioux Falls community and said that the idea for the company came from a deeper desire to do more.
Starting in the back of a pickup, Tony’s career slowly needed more help as his “impact” in the Sioux Falls realty community began to grow.
“I wanted to work for myself, have a more hands-on approach and really see the full process come together,” Tony explains. So, he sold his motorcycle, purchased a ladder and air compressor, packed his tools in the back of a truck and slowly started to put the pieces together.
Impact Construction started as a reliable company to complete framework, siding and smaller home projects. Throughout the years, Tony has built up his crew and portfolio and is moving on to more full-service home jobs in both new construction, as well as repair/restoration work.
The Impact Construction crew, composed of two foremen, six other individuals and Tony himself, create an amazing work experience. “Together, the foreman Brian Kuhnert, Jeremy Hirsch and I have more than 75 years of experience in the industry,” Tony adds.
In total, Tony and his team have completed around 10 complete custom builds including Tony’s own home. Turning toward a full-service company, each project starts at the drawing board. Tony jokes, “Sometimes it starts as a sketch on a napkin and then we take that to the drafter and the real work begins.”
From deck work to cabinetry, and foundation to sprinklers and sod, Impact Construction is a one-stop shop for your construction needs. Tony and his team can bring your dreams to reality.
Although each project is unique, one thing is consistent throughout the company’s workflow process. Communication. Like most relationships, communication is key, and Tony says that at Impact it’s no different. “I like to be hands-on with our customers and communicate where we are along the way,” he says.
One of Impact Construction’s most recent projects was Tony’s own home. The house was completed in March 2023 and is now hosting a list of new memories for Tony, his partner Missy and their two daughters.
The family’s new home is modeled like a cozy farmhouse with touches of modern design that would make even Joanna Gaines proud. Filled with natural light, the house gives off a very warm and inviting feel that only makes it easier to make into a home.
Some of the amazing features and amenities include a wet bar in the basement that includes a built-in fish tank, a covered front porch, large quartz islands both up and downstairs, a gas fireplace with a stone surround in the basement and so much more.
“On the main floor, we have an open concept kitchen, dining and living room combo,” Tony explains. “We love it because it means we get to spend more time together as a family and it’s also perfect for entertaining friends and guests.”
With the focal point of a turquoise electric fireplace and a built-in TV space in the living room, it’s hard to leave the little oasis they’ve built together. Complete with surround-sound speakers in the ceiling, movie nights and sports games are even more fun as a family.
“Sioux Falls is a great location, and I love to see it grow. I love being a part of that growth.” – Tony Lahman
The kids’ bedrooms are more substantial than their previous home as well, especially with their larger-than-average closets. Secluded on a separate side of the house is the primary bedroom and bathroom that serves as a beautiful and cozy sanctuary. The private bath includes a double vanity, access to the laundry space, a walk-in tiled shower with textured onyx-hued granite and an authentic-looking sliding barn door stained a rich walnut brown, a trait that is consistent throughout the home in the cabinets, handmade trim and millwork.
Keeping the peace (and quiet), the home is also well insulated, making the desired tranquil aesthetic a reality.
Between the board and batten exterior, rich wood tones, an abundance of natural light and the added square footage/open concept feel, Impact Construction definitely achieved the authenticity of the modern farmhouse vibe that Tony and Missy had hoped to provide for themselves and the girls.
When they aren’t at home or in the office, the family is out on the lake or taking in the views at their lake home near Brookings. In their free time, they love to boat and float and simply enjoy the simple things in life.
